Happy New Year!
January 1, 2013—Cheers to a good start to the new year! We spent the first day of 2013 exploring new territory around Fountain Hills Arizona. We can see snow on the nearby mountaintops and are glad that we’re in the desert. It’s not flip-flop weather here but we’ll take it!
Here are a few snaps from our hike up to the Dixie Mine today.

Sorry about your pups….
Wishing we were hiking the dessert instead of midwest IL….ugh!
Is you Casita staying warm…..any issues?
What were your lows?
Enjoy your January out SW…going to be us next year!!
Hi ya cozygirl. Our little electric heater is keeping la Casita toasty. We highly recommend buying one. Last winter we camped a lot without hookups. One morning we woke up to 32F inside la Casita (the gas furnace is noisy so we weren’t running it at night) so this winter we decided we’d spring for electric sites.
The lows in Mesa and Fountain Hills have been in the 30s and 40s the past few weeks. In Oro Valley, we saw lows in the 20s a couple years ago. The views are worth cold nights–as is being able to get out and hike and bike every day. There are great trails at McDowell Mountain Park, Usery Mountain Park, and Catalina State Park.
We haven’t had any problems with frozen pipes. We’re just sure to disconnect the outdoor shower when we know it’ll be below freezing. There is usually condensation built up on the windows in the morning on cold nights but that’s about the most trouble we’ve had.
Have fun planning your escape from the midwest next year! (c:
